Giving Back
In 2012, Roth Turkey Farm began a partnership with the New York City Thanksgiving ministry organization. This organization provides over 1,000 Thanksgiving meals to New York City’s working poor through churches and other faith-based organizations.
For this project, many individuals and businesses provide donations. In July, our farm receives turkey poults donated by Cooper Hatchery. These turkeys are raised and cared for on our farm until mid-October. At that time, they are processed locally and packaged by volunteers. The packaged turkeys are delivered to Midwest Food Bank, where an additional box of food is added, to make a complete Thanksgiving dinner. The weekend before Thanksgiving, Midwest Food Bank transports the packaged Thanksgiving meals to New York City. A group of volunteers, mainly from Central Illinois, travel to New York City to hand deliver the packaged Thanksgiving dinners. |
